Your Job (coming soon to a theatre near you)

If your job were a movie, how many people would pay $6.00 to buy a ticket and see you perform in that job?

I thought about this while watching the highly popular TV show "CSI: Miami."

How come millions of people tune in to watch these people perform their police work?

That's because they make it look SO INTERESTING.

But why can't we make our own real-life job look and feel interesting also?

It's because we lack movie-directing skills. Yet, those skills are not difficult to pick up. Of course, you won't become a Steven Spielberg overnight. But you can always make your work environment more exciting, and you can always treat yourself like the star of your own movie.

One trick I use is that I often try to imitate various characters, like the enigmatic yet majestic Ralph Fiennes in The English Patient, or the fearless and unstoppable Patrick Swayze in Point Break.

Shakespeare was totally right: the world's a stage, and all men and women merely players.

You would be amazed how much passion and creativity you can stir up and unleash, once you start treating your life and your career like an exciting movie where you are the star.
